Turmeric Tea For Your Tummy

Turmeric Tea For Your Tummy

What? Blech!

Or not. I’ve had a terrible time with my stomach for the last few days, bloated, gas, and constant pressure. Sure, I could go to the doctor, and I would if it persisted. Instead, I tried a turmeric tea concoction. My nausea subsided by the time I finished my 8-ounce cup of tea and my bloating was definitely less bothersome.

There are definitely some precautions to take if you’re going to make anything with turmeric, and you can find them here: Turmeric precautions

If you’ve read the precautions and are still up to trying the tea, it doesn’t taste bad at all. In fact, it has very little flavor other than the clove and cinnamon.

I made the mistake of putting all of the ingredients in with the water and then tried to filter it. This took forever. So the next time I placed the ingredients in a coffee filter and tied it off with cooking string. (Okay, fine, I didn’t have the cooking string. I used no-wax dental floss to tie it off) I bought some empty tea bags for future use since I plan to make this tea often.

Here’s the recipe I used:

1  Bottle Spring Water (we’ll call that 16 oz.)
1 T Cinnamon
1 T Turmeric (you can add more if you like)
3 whole Cloves
1/4 t Nutmeg

There is no exact science here, you can use more of the spices if you want a hardier taste.

Heat the water in a small pot on the stove to just below boiling. Add all of the dry ingredients to the center of a coffee filter, then gather and tie into a bundle with cooking string. Drop the filter into the water and let the herbs steep for at least five minutes.

Add all of the dry ingredients to the center of a coffee filter, then gather and tie tightly into a bundle with cooking string. Drop the filter into the water and let the herbs steep for at least 5-10 minutes. I was impatient and only waited about 6 minutes.

My tea was yellow and cloudy, and actually tasty. I did add a teaspoon of raw honey for sweetness.

If you prefer, you can also purchase disposable tea bags, they are very reasonably priced. And now that I know I’ll be making this tea regularly, I bought some.

When you try this tea, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Shine on,

Willa Friday
